Structure Fire – 179 Meadow Lane, LaGrange NY

On March 16, 2025, at 17:36 hours, the LaGrange Fire District responded to report of a house fire at 179 Meadow Lane in the Town of LaGrange. At 17:39 hours it was confirmed there was an active basement fire with extension to the first floor. Immediately upon arrival of the Shift Officer 2nd Alarm of fire was requested, deploying preplanned mutual aid departments, East Fishkill, Arlington, Pleasant Valley, New Hackensack, Union Vale and a 10-35, a call back for personnel, to the scene.
At 17:45 hours the first arriving units confirmed all residents were evacuated and water was being applied to the fire. Initially the crews knocked down the visible fire in the basement through a sliding glass door on the rear of the residence. A second line was put into operation on the first floor with the fire coming under control and extinguishment by 17:51 hours. Additionally, the Dutchess County Fire Investigation Division was requested to respond. The crews began checking for extension of fire throughout the remaining structure.
One of the residents sustained minor injuries in attempts to save a family pet, the resident was treated and released. Additional residents were evaluated and released with one being transported for further evaluation at an area hospital. A family feline and ferret were the only surviving pets.
Pleasant Valley Fire District and Empress Ambulance Service were relocated to Stations 2 to cover any addition calls in the LaGrange Fire District.
In addition to the fire districts that provided mutual aid, the LaGrange Fire District would like to thank the New York State Police, the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Officers, Central Hudson Gas and Electric, and the Dutchess County Department of Emergency Response Fire Investigation Division for their immediate response and assistance on scene.
The cause of the fire was determined, accidental by the Dutchess County Fire Investigation Division. The incident was concluded at 22:32 hours, March 16, 2025.
