For Immediate Release
August 1, 2022
The LaGrange Fire District would like to announce and congratulate Lieutenant Anthony W. Champion on his promotion to Deputy Chief. He was sworn in on July 26, 2022, before the Board of Commissioners and he starts his new position today, August 1, 2022. The Deputy Chief position, which was vacant for over six years will address the many necessary and complex tasks required for the operation of LaGrange’s fire and EMS – services which have been severely taxed by the increasing residential and commercial growth within the district.
Deputy Chief Champion brings over two decades of experience to the job as he started with LaGrange in 1998 as a volunteer rising to the rank of Second Lieutenant of Company 3. He was hired as a full-time firefighter/EMT in 2005. In 2009 he completed a year long process to become a paramedic. He was also in charge of the Public Education & Fire Prevention for many years until his promotion to Lieutenant in 2014. Deputy Chief Champion is credited with saving the lives of two people and assisting in a birth on the side of the Taconic State Parkway.
As Deputy Chief, Anthony W. Champion will continue servicing the residents and visitors of LaGrange. He will now have a more integral role in the Fire District maintaining its current exceptional fire and EMS service.
