To achieve this mission the LaGrange Fire District operates one of the most unique and comprehensive Fire/Rescue/and EMS systems in the Hudson Valley, as we are the only Fire Department based ALS (Advanced Life Support) Ambulance service in the area. Staffed by both Career and Volunteer members, LFD has a full complement of personnel on-duty, in the station ready to respond at moments notice 24/7 365 days a year, which includes at a minimum two NYS certified Paramedics.
With a response area of approximately 40 square miles and approximately 16,000 residents, LFD handles approximately 2200 calls for service a year, which averages out to about 6 calls a day. In order to provide the best service, as efficiently as possible, all of our on-duty Career staff are dually trained and certified as both NYS Fire Fighters and NYS EMT/Paramedics, allowing them to be able to handle whatever calls for service may come in. They are supplemented by an assortment of very dedicated and hard-working volunteer personnel who provide additional fire and/or EMS support. LFD is very proud of the strong working relationship the Career and Volunteer staff have. Members from both parties work together seamlessly to achieve the same goal; providing the best possible service to the Town of LaGrange.
Our three firehouses house a variety of equipment designed to mitigate any emergency we are presented with. As a large section of the town has no hydrant coverage, we employ the use of two 3,000 gallon water tankers that, along with the first due engine, allow us to bring at least 7,000 gallons of water to any first alarm structure fire. We have a heavy rescue truck that allows us to bring a wide complement of specialized rescue tools to any scene we are requested to including the Jaws of Life, Heavy lifting airbags, swift water/ice rescue gear, and structural collapse/trench rescue shoring, just to name a few. Of our three ambulances, two are staffed around the clock with a full complement of Advanced Life Support equipment that allows us to bring the Emergency Room to you. Our paramedics provide the highest level of pre-hospital care, with the most cutting-edge equipment available. Aside from routine ALS procedures, including IV access, intubation, 12-lead EKG, administration of over 30 different medications, CPAP, and cardioversion, our paramedics have access to video laryngoscopes, the LUCAS mechanical CPR device, the Cyanokit cyanide antidote kit, and pet oxygen masks.
